Free Write

This week we are allowed to do a 'Free Write' for the assignment. I have decided to write about being within a character and still be able to express yourself and the characters motives all at the same time. :) So while acting may just be for some people putting on another mask of an emotion or another character that is just on their shelf it is way more to me. They begin to do the same monologues over and over again that there is no longer emotion rather just a mindless memorization of words. Their lines for the play they are performing are rehearsed so many times it loses its passion that was once a kindled fire. You of course want to rehearse enough so that you know your lines front and back, upside down and every which way possible. But to know them so well that it you no longer feel the emotion while saying or doing them, well you've gone too far. Whenever working on a monologue i first memorize the lines, not using different tones and saying them like i would if i were speaking. Rather just having a bunch of lines memorized in my head just sitting there with no purpose. I then imagine myself wherever the character is, first walls around me, smells in the room, people in the background, and i visualize the person, their eyes staring right back at me. That is when i begin to feel the lines. I try to forget the audience let them blend in with the walls and my surroundings. I don't wish to become a "better actor" by writing all of this and reading the book but to become an actor who better understands acting as a whole. While acting you wish to escape sometimes what you are doing and be free. To be free is to fly and while your acting you wish to soar above all expectations from others and most importantly yours.
